Medical ID for Epilepsy & Seizures

A seizure can leave a person temporarily unable to speak, explain what happened, or provide their emergency contacts. A visible medical ID can help another person recognize the situation, find approved instructions, and contact the right caregiver.

CareID offers wrist-worn, wallet-size, and phone-based emergency identification. QR and NFC access can open condition guidance or an owner-approved personalized emergency profile without requiring the helper to install an app or create an account.

What an epilepsy medical ID should make easy to find

The appropriate information depends on the person’s clinician-approved seizure plan. Useful emergency information may include:

  • Epilepsy or seizure condition identification
  • The person’s typical seizure pattern and usual recovery period
  • Clear criteria for calling 911
  • Primary and backup caregiver contacts
  • Approved rescue-medication information and location
  • Communication needs after a seizure
  • Implanted-device information when relevant
  • Medication and allergy information selected for emergency use

A CareID profile should support the person’s seizure action plan. It should not create new medication instructions or ask an untrained bystander to guess a dose, route, or timing.

Condition-Ready or Personalized

Condition-Ready CareID opens general seizure first-aid guidance. It identifies the selected condition but does not contain the person’s identity, medications, rescue plan, or contacts.

Personalized CareID can display concise owner-approved details from the person’s established emergency plan, including contacts, typical recovery needs, rescue-medication location, and responder notes.

Personalization is generally more useful when the person has cluster seizures, rescue medication, an implanted VNS or RNS device, an unusual recovery pattern, or specific instructions that another person may need to locate quickly.

Choose an access format that stays with the person

CareID Beacon provides visible wrist-worn QR and NFC access with physical backups. CareID Card provides wallet-size access and writable information. Digital CareID provides phone-based access and can supplement a physical ID.

For many people with epilepsy, redundancy is more important than choosing one technology. A bracelet can remain visible during a seizure. A wallet card can provide readable backup. A digital link can be shared with caregivers, school staff, or other authorized support people.

Test the system before relying on it

  • Scan every QR code with more than one phone when possible.
  • Test the NFC location on compatible phones.
  • Confirm that contact buttons reach the correct people.
  • Compare the profile with the current seizure action plan.
  • Check rescue-medication names and locations after any change.
  • Replace damaged or unreadable physical identification.
