QR codes
Most current iPhone and Android camera apps can scan a QR code. Open the camera, point it steadily at the full code in good light, and tap the link that appears. If it does not scan, clean the surface, increase lighting, move the camera slightly farther away, and try a dedicated QR scanner only if the phone requires one.
NFC tap
NFC availability and antenna position vary by phone. Unlock the phone, remove thick or metal cases if needed, and hold the phone’s NFC area near the marked CareID tap point for a moment. On many iPhones the antenna is near the top edge; on Android phones it is often near the upper or central back.
Apple Wallet and Apple Watch
Digital wallet availability depends on the pass delivered with the selected product and the device’s current operating-system support. Apple Watch access may require the pass to be added to the paired iPhone first.
Internet requirements
Online emergency guides and profiles require an internet connection. A QR code or NFC tap does not itself store the entire profile. Physical write-in fields, when included and completed, provide a limited offline backup.
If the link does not open
- Try the printed web address, another browser, or another connected phone.
- Turn Wi-Fi off and try cellular data, or do the reverse.
- Do not delay calling 911 because a CareID page will not load.
- Report damaged, lost, or non-working CareID access points through Support.
