In any medical emergency, ensure scene safety first. Check responsiveness and breathing. Control major bleeding. Look for emergency identification. Call 911 and follow dispatcher instructions. Do not provide medication without verified instruction.

Immediate Steps
- Ensure scene safety — check for hazards before approaching.
- Check responsiveness — gently tap and ask if they are okay.
- Check breathing — look, listen, and feel for normal breathing.
- Control major bleeding with direct pressure using a clean cloth.
- Look for emergency identification or medical information.
Call 911 Immediately If:
- The person is unresponsive or has altered consciousness
- Breathing is absent, irregular, or severely labored
- There is major bleeding that cannot be controlled
- The person has severe pain, chest pain, or signs of stroke
- You are unsure of the severity but the situation appears life-threatening
Do Not:
- Do not enter an unsafe scene — wait for emergency services
- Do not provide medication without verified instruction from the person, their ID, or a dispatcher
- Do not move a person with potential spinal injury unless absolutely necessary
- Do not give food or drink to someone with altered consciousness
- Do not hang up on the 911 dispatcher — follow their instructions
After the Immediate Situation
- Stay with the person until emergency services arrive
- Provide all observed information to responders
- Share any medical ID or medication information found
- Follow any additional dispatcher instructions
